Welcome to Lipstick and Sawdust. My name is Tiffanie Thomas. I am a wife to the most amazing man and stay at home mother to my two awesome children. When I was younger I always said that I wanted to be a wife and a mom when I grow up; and here I am. Well along this path I have discovered many different gifts and talents that God placed in me. I started out doing small crafts with my kids and costumes, things like that. But over time I would see different things and think to myself, "I can do that!"
Spring of 2018 I bought my first mitre saw. I had no idea what I was doing or where to start but I knew I wanted a giant outdoor tower stacking game (like Jenga) and a giant four in a row game (like Connect 4). So I bought a saw, set it up in my living room and started cutting wood! My husband came home from work to find me in the middle of the living room with all my protective gear on practicing test cuts on leftover fence posts from the garage. What a sight for sore eyes. Once he gently directed me to the garage, that was all she wrote. I spent hours all spring and summer perfecting my craft, buying more and more tools, and having so much fun along the way.
Then I learned to take my new found skills up a notch when my husband gifted me with a cutting machine. That made me able to customize all the wood projects I'd been working on. And that's when I started making and selling t-shirts, canvas, mugs, you name it. I have enjoyed making these things as a hobby and I've been told several times that I need to turn this to a business. So here I am; turning this into a business.
I've always been a girly girl with nail polish, lipstick, dresses, the whole nine. So when I first started wood working, my mom would come visit and I'd be covered in sawdust. She would say, "Lipstick and sawdust don't go together. You need to pick a struggle!" And that's where my business name, "Lipstick and Sawdust" came from because I am proof that the two DO in fact go together!
Over time I have published my first book, God's Surrogate (with two more books on the way), written curriculum for youth church services, started a blog, created custom shirts and gifts, done woodworking, and math tutoring: sort of a Jill of all trades. So this site serves as a hub for all things Tiffanie Thomas. It's a one stop shop for everything I have available. I'm not one thing in general such as a writer, or a crafter, or a tutor, I am all of these things and more. I am Lipstick and Sawdust: where SASSY meets CRAFTY, and I thank you for joining me here!
